Heritage - Forgotten - Abandoned - Historical - Development - Dilapidated

Collage connecting the potential sites I considered; Breedon House (Brighton, Victoria), Y-Block (Oslo, Norway), Old Burleigh Theatre Arcade (Burleigh Heads, Queensland), St Kilda Library (St Kilda, Victoria), Haludovo Palace Hotel (Krk, Croatia), Flinders Street Station Ballroom (Melbourne, Victoria).

Located in the Melbourne CBD, Flinders Street Station is the busiest train station in Melbourne with over 77 000 daily entries recorded in 2018.

The main station was built in 1909 and has since become iconic for it's art nouveau features including the dome, arches, clocks and tower. The station is registered on the Victorian Heritage Register.

// Forgotten

// Rich in History

// Hidden within a Melbourne Landmark

// Government is looking to develop it

Opened in 1910 the space was originally the lecture hall of the Victorian Railways Institute, an association established to provide “betterment of railway staff".

The heyday of the ballroom was in the 1950s and 60s.

It was closed to the public in 1985 and is only open to select visitors on Melbourne's "Open Day".

How can the past begin to influence the future design?
